Date:
29 Jun 2016 - 14:00 - 15:00

The Dare to Solve: Roadworks challenge will offer up to £10,000 to one business to encourage innovation to mitigate the public disruption and frustration that go hand in hand with planned and emergency works.

The winning company will not only benefit from funding, but also from the opportunity to work with commercial partners Staffordshire County Council, Amey and Elgin to accelerate development of their technology.

We want to see unique solutions with potential appeal to a wide commercial market; successful applicants will then embark on the opportunity to trial their proposed solutions with the industry partners for a minimum duration of 3 months.

This briefing event will give applicants the chance to find out more about the application and contest process, gain helpful hints and tips on applying, and will be an opportunity to hear more about the challenge.

This is an ideal opportunity for applicants to find out all they need to know for applying to the Dare to Solve: Roadworks contest.

The Dare to Solve: Roadworks challenge will offer up to £10,000 to one business to encourage innovation to mitigate the public disruption and frustration that go hand in hand with planned and emergency works.

The future for payments policy - infrastructure, regulation and consumer priorities

$

Date:
21 Feb 2017 - 08:30 - 13:30

This event is CPD Certified

Bringing together key policymakers and stakeholders from across the financial services sector, this timely conference will discuss the future for payments policy and regulation in the UK.

Delegates will assess the future of proposals set out in the European Commission’s recently revised Directive on Payments Services (PSD2) - particularly relating to the UK’s position in light of the EU Referendum - following the publication of the European Banking Authorities finalised Regulatory and Technical Standards on passporting under PSD2 later this year. The seminar will also consider the impact of the Financial Conduct Authority’s current consultation on the guidance provided to firms in complying with the future payment services regime.

Planned sessions focus on next steps for facilitating innovation and competitiveness across payments markets, whilst also ensuring adequate safeguards for consumers - particularly in terms of payment security and tackling financial fraud. Delegates will also have the opportunity to consider latest challenges in developing competitiveness in UK payments infrastructure, in light of the Payment System Regulator’s ongoing market studies on indirect access and ownership of payments systems.

Speakers and other delegates at this conference are expected to be a senior and informed group including Members of both Houses of Parliament, senior UK and European officials, together with academics, banks, building societies, charities, commentators, consultants, consumer groups, infrastructure providers, intermediaries, lawyers, merchant acquirers, money remitters, payments service users, payments system operators and technology firms, as well as members of the national and trade press.

At this early stage we are delighted that Andrea Enria, Chairperson, European Banking Authority

Sarah Francis, Consultant, Polymath Consulting; Fiona Ghosh, Partner, Payment Systems Group, Addleshaw Goddard; Simon Grossman, Vice President, Regulatory and Public Policy, MasterCard; Jeremy Light, Managing Director, Accenture Payment Services; Carl Packman, Research and Good Practice Manager, Toynbee Hall and a speaker confirmed from Bacs have also agreed to speak.

He is currently working as a lead developer at a blockchain platform which automates invoicing, invoice factoring and payments. The current stack includes private Ethereum network, NodeJS application which serves as a middleware between the blockchain and the end user and various integrations with third-party ERP systems and payment providers.

Trainer 2

Thomas Bertani is a long time blockchain expert. His career started with important contributions in the fields of high performance computing. Today he works mainly on Bitcoin and Ethereum as an entrepreneur and consultant. In August 2013 he started Bitboat, which today is among the leading 'cash to bitcoin' marketplaces in Europe. In the last 4 years his experimentations in this industry ranged from the managing of "Virtual Companies" listed on a Bitcoin Equity Crowdfunding Exchange to the incorporation of Oraclize srl (the 1st company in Italy and 2nd in Europe incorporated with Bitcoin as capital contribution). After his work at
Cointerra in designing high performance bitcoin miners and managing 5% of the global Bitcoin hashrate, his focus is now in providing reliable infrastructure layers for smart contracts via the Oraclize oracle solution.

Thomas has worked on a range of projects from web development (fullstack) to low level applications on embedded systems, scientific applications on GPUs via OpenCL/CUDA, GSM packet low level sniffing apps (osmocom), kernel-level coding to implement multithreading support on microcontrollers and much
more. He moved to bitcoin in 2012 and worked on things ranging from drivers for ASIC miners, hardware wallet firmware code, fullstack bitcoin marketplace (bitboat.net), architecture to manage thousands of
bitcoin miners, "state of art" oracle systems for Ethereum (Oraclize) and many DApps/smartcontracts.

26 Jan 2017 - 08:30 - 13:30

To view the latest agenda and to book your place, please click here.

This seminar will focus on the progress being made and next steps for protecting children and young people online.

Dapp Coding Sampler Workshop

So What is a DApp?

A decentralised application (DApp) or a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO) is a company or service that isn't controlled by any single individual, board or other central entity.

See some examples of DApps here

DApps are the outcome of Blockchain. When you agree that Blockchain's potential on the modern digital economy is huge, the potential will be realised through millions of DApps.

Imagine how the Smart Phone changed our lives, with the App Store encourage inventors to come up with a myriad of Apps from Gaming & Entertainment to Productivity Enhancing to Google Maps, Uber etc. Some ultra successful compnaies of the modern economy started and remain as Apps - Instagram, Uber etc.

So let's welcome DApps! If you want to leverage blockchain, you have got to imagine and create a DApp.

You have gulped down reams of reports, digested hours of talks by Blockchain experts and think you get "Satoshi's plan".

But, you are not sure how to create a decentralised application!

You have had enough of theory, and now you want deep practical knowledge.

Come, lets get-together with other aspiring DApp developers and get building DApps..

Dapp Trainer

Mark 'Bart' Simpson is a software engineer with over 20 years of development experience in the financial industry. He has designed and built algorithmic trading, portfolio trading, trade processing, reference data, market data, risk, cash management, clearing and data distribution systems. He currently works at RBS in the Innovation Engineering Department where his current focus is building financial solutions on distributed ledger technology. Abhaya Prasad Hota, MD and CEO, NPCI, says: “Real-time sending and receiving money through a mobile application at such a scale on interoperable basis had not been attempted anywhere else in the world.”

For the last few months it has been on a pilot run mainly with employees and customers. After assessing the “success” of the pilot run, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) gave their final approval for the public launch.

NPCI decided that only banks with 1,000 pilot customers, 5,000 transactions and a success rate of around 80% would be permitted to go live. It says such a threshold criteria helped the banks to refine their systems and procedure.
